Magic Info

The term close-up magic means what it says: "close up" as opposed to the larger illusions you would witness at a theatre or on T.V. The style I've adopted is focused entirely on entertaining people at close quarters which involves more skill & from feedback from past clients, is much more entertaining as the people who are witnessing the magic feel much more involved.

Experienced in close up for over 24 years, I have been employed by numerous companies around the world to perfrom this style of magic. My props are simple... a pack of cards or some coins or even objects from my audience, an audience who wants to witness some real magic & be utterly amazed in an intimate setting.

In my vast experience of performing Close-up magic at events the results have always been the same; astonishment & wonderment in it's purest form. Forget the TV magic you see that can involve "STOOGES" and actors; my kind of magic is genuine with honest reactions.

Weddings in particular benefit from entertainment during the day as more often than not, the day is taken up by official duties like the photos. A close up performer can fill the dead time between the drinks reception & during the meal entertaining the tables as one & help to give the day a bit more variety and banter between people.

Cost Info

The cost for a minimum 2 hour set for Close up Magic at a Wedding/Private Function is £850 (+VAT). Within that fee Matt can entertain up to 160 guests.

Hypnosis

As we all know, entertainment goes through fads & with the likes of new magic TV shows, the world of magic is changing. Due to popular demand the Mind Magic is taking over & dominating the world of Illusion & Entertainment. Therefore, for the last 10 years I have been working on a new Cabaret that combines many different styles of Psychology to entertain and astonish.

In 2003 I qualified as an NLP Practitioner & I use this new skill to full extent within the show. The other skills I use are Cold Reading, Showmanship & of course the broad theme of Magic. Imagine being asked to draw a picture or think of a word or even the name of someone only you would know? And imagine your surprise when I can write down that word or even draw the same picture that you drew? Well that's just one example of what I do in the show and audiences love it.

The second half of the show I dedicate to another fascinating area; Hypnosis. I will take a selected amount of people through the induction & through tests to prove that under a controlled environment people can be influenced through suggestion. The show is devised in such away to educate & entertain without making the subjects perform demoralizing acts.

I have seen so many of these 'so called' acts that make people do embarrassing and lewd acts & make idiots of people and I think it gives Hypnosis a bad name.

The show has been developed to be flexible to suit any size of venue and audience.

Questions I get asked.

  1. Can everyone be hypnotised? Answer: Yes but you have to want to be hypnotised.
  2. Can things be done under Hypnosis that can't normally be achieved? Answer: No. People can be made to feel strange things, but our senses fool us.
  3. Are people aware of what's going on when they're hypnotised? Answer: If anything, the subject's senses are often more heightened.

Below shows just some of the companies I have worked for in my experience as a close-up magician.
